Opus Dei's influence
Tunnel for the White House and the Vatican
Dear Senator Leahy,
I agree with
your statement of January 9 regarding Judge Alitos
hearing. The main question is that we have already a few
of the same sectarian judges seating on the court: Justices
Scalia, Thomas and Roberts. To add another one also sponsored
by the Vatican makes it impossible to have an Independent
Court, as you said. It is unable to assure Justice
for all. The Supreme Court had already lost prestige
when it showed partisanship during the presidential elections
of 2000, giving the presidency to the republican candidate,
in spite of the vote count. This time, the Senate is being
asked to give up the check and balance that made the constitution
work. I completely agree with you that The Court
that serves America should reflect America, that this
President succumbed to partisan pressure from the extreme
right of his party, who does not want an independent federal
judiciary, who demands judges who will guarantee the results
that they want: a culture change even if it is by means
of lying to us, spying on us, depriving us of our liberties,
or worse.
It is not in
the interest of the United States to allow a connecting
tunnel between the Supreme Court and the White House, as
well as a connecting tunnel between an Opus Dei led Vatican
a foreign country - and the Supreme Court.
Last year (2004),
Pope Benedikt XVI did not hesitate to intervene in American
Politics by giving instructions to his US bishops thru Washingtons
Cardinal Mc Carrick to forbid communion to pro choice Politicians.
The resulting endorsement of GW Bush by Catholics bishops
indoctrinating their flocks prompted a protest by John Kerry
and a letter of complaint signed by more than 50 congressmen.
The organization within the church that encouraged the Popes
fatwa was Opus Dei, a sect created in Spain, during Fascism,
who supported Franco and who is still constantly helping
ultra right parties to win their crusade, even against a
majority of Catholics (most Spaniards are Catholic). We
do not want to show intolerance for religious beliefs, but
we cannot accept backward sectarian activism replacing elected
presidents by anointed kings.
It does not disturb
me that Justice Kennedy is a Catholic. I am also
a Catholic. However, Gore Vidal, Vice President Gores
relative, informed us that Scalia and Thomas were members
of Opus Dei. We cannot ignore it. According to Bill Maher,
other Opus Dei members include neo-conservatives such as
Brownback and Santorum in Washington, which are pushing
for Alitos confirmation. Maher said - they participate
in this murky cult with other conservative extremist insiders
such as Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, disgraced
Iran-Contra National Security Adviser John Poindexter, and
right-wing columnists Lawrence Kudlow and Robert Novak.
Convicted FBI spy Robert Hansen is also an Opus Dei member.
If convicted Iran Contra point man Poindexter is part of
Opus Dei, it is not good for our civil liberties; we do
not want a judge who will approve of the spying by the White
House on US citizen - all the way to the confessionals.
Where does the
fourth Catholic, John Roberts, stand? Questions arise since
he selected a reputed Opus Dei School for his children in
Chevy Chase, Md. His wife, Jane Sullivan Roberts, is an
anti-choice activist and a member of the board of governors
of the John Carroll Society, a Catholic lay organization
that sponsors the annual Red Mass in the Archdiocese of
Washington. Bush attended the recent Red Mass of October
2005, along with Justices Scalia, Thomas and Roberts.
The Bush Administration's
Catholic strategy is no shot in the dark. G.W. knelt before
Pope John Paul II, along with Karl Rove in May 2002. He
owes him his reelection.
Judge Alito is a Catholic, like me, who was selected to
please the right, as you said. We do not need another evangelical
(whether Catholic or Protestant) to divide us even more
and to place his agenda ahead of national conciliation.
We do not want to be governed by an activist alliance, anxious
to impose its culture on us all the way back to medieval
time. How strange for a historically non papist country
like ours to have 5 Catholics in the Court! Are we complete
idiots? GW Bush certainly counts on it, obviously to reverse
Roe, but also now importantly to get the Courts validation
to legalize current illegal spying on American citizens.
We do not want an alliance of Evangelicals and Catholic
Extremists to protect impeachable offenses. We do not want
spies in our backyard to cut our liberties so that this
man can be made king by the faithful.
It is a grave
mistake not to respect American diversity in nominating
Justices. Lets reject Samuel Alito as Supreme Court
Justice every way we can: it is a patriotic move to defend
our liberties. There is no justice but justice for all.
This is what we want Senator Leahy, and we count on you
to filibuster this confirmation, if necessary, all the way
to the next elections. We count on you to impeach the President
for his illegal spying on American citizens. We count on
you to promote women equality. We count on you to reconcile
the country. We thank you in advance!
Gerard Antoine, Culver City
